A Long Day At Dover!

My highlight was learning that Bobbie Allison once drove a trotter on the horse track. I was a huge Allison fan, and never new that. We even bought a Matador, ugly & poor handling as it was.
And then Jeff Hammond picked Dale Jr. to win the Championship. He actually said the words out loud on Fox’s last show. As any Irishman knows, that is just tempting fate! You never, never, say it out loud.
So, 20 laps into the race, the big crash came as no surprise. David Gilliland and Elliot Sadler got together, and Elliot got the brunt of the damage. Then Tony Stewart’s sarcasm slammed into Elliot and the pile up began. Dale Jr. slowed almost to a stop and came close to making it through. But Denny Hamlin’s confidence never let up and he plowed into the mess, followed by a slowing Bobby Labonte, who pushed Dale Jr. into the wall, where his splitter got stuck. What are the odds?
Kyle Busch won, with only 5 cars in the lead lap. Well, technically 6, although Martin Truex, Jr. was just in front of Busch in 6th. Not an exciting race, unless you were wondering if the Gibbs horsepower would make it to the end.
Dale Jr. finished 35th, 13 laps down. He’s still in 3rd place, but lost a lot of points.
It was a long day at Dover.
