The weekend got off to a good start with exciting side-by-side racing in the Nationwide Series. Running the Navy 83 in bright orange trim, Dale Jr. finished 4th, right behind Brad Kesselowski in the JR Motor Sports’ Navy 88. Brad ran strong all night, much to the chagrin of Denny Hamlin. Hamlin’s post race comments about respect and courtesy due “Cup” drivers (not blocking, allowing them to pass because they’re special) was slammed by the media for the garbage it was! Hopefully NASCAR noticed Hamlin, while under caution, swerve up and deliberately knock in Brad’s left front fender. If not, I’m sure they saw Dale Jr. ease up and tap Hamlin’s back bumper in displeasure. We’ll find out Tuesday or Wednesday!
Dale Jr. had a championship Coca Cola 600! He qualified well, led the most laps, and managed to come back and finish 5th after blowing a tire, hitting the wall, and being slammed in the back by J.J. Yeley in the 96. To be able to get his motivation back after being so close to a win and drive a heavily damaged car to a 5th place finish is CHAMPIONSHIP material! Still 3rd in points and he’s gaining. It won’t be long before he’s winning. And once he gets that first win, LOOK OUT!
