I’m not talking about the weather; I’m talking about his abysmal luck! In 12 races at Fontana he's finished in the top ten 5 times, with his best finish of 5th last year! Changing to Hendrick's didn't change his luck. Every time his car is running good, someone runs into him and he limps around the rest of the day.
This year seepage from the asphalt seams caused Casey Mears to slide into the wall, then down into Dale Jr., then back up against the wall, where Sam Hornish,Jr. , who couldn’t see past his crumbled hood, smashed into rear end of Casey’s sturdy COT and flipped it onto it’s side. Thanks to the courage and quick work of the track workers, Casey escaped injury from the ensuing fire.
The 88 National Guard/Amp crew got everything ready during the red flag and was able to get Jr back on the track, just 41 laps down. Then the rain came, and despite Nascar’s best efforts, the race was postponed until Monday. Tony Eury, Jr. turned the long day into a test session, and Dale Jr. stuck it out for the rest of the race, finishing 40th. At least he wasn’t injured this year.
Thanks to the Car Of Today, the race had several lead changes, and several great saves! This car is a lot more stable that last year's.
